About the data

How we get our data

Where the listings come from, what a listing does and does not mean, and how an opening gets confirmed.

The source

Up Next Nashville starts with the Davidson County Clerk's public list of new business filings, the same paperwork every new business in the county files. The list is pulled and read every morning, and building permits and the businesses' own announcements fill in the picture around it. Everything on this site traces back to a public record or a business's own words.

What a listing means

A listing means a business has taken its first public step. It is not an opening date and not a promise: some filings open in a few weeks, some take a season, and a few never open at all. That is why listings carry no opening day. When a business announces its own date, stories here report that date and name where it came from.

How a business becomes "Now open"

Only by confirmation: the business's own announcement, its own channels showing it open, or a report we can stand behind. Never by guessing, and never just because time has passed. Confirmed openings carry the Now open badge wherever the business appears.

What never appears here

Street addresses or map pins for home-based businesses (they are listed by neighborhood only), owners' personal contact details, and any sign of a business's financial health. This site tracks what is opening. The full list is on the about page.

How current this is

The listings update every morning. Every page footer carries the current-as date; this page was built with data current as of Oct 18, 2026.
